Coming together to share the joy of singing

Thanks Ben

Cloud9 Women’s Choir would like to say a big thankyou to Ben Leske who took up the role of Music Director for a month, while Gloria was busy traveling around the world.

We had a great time and were definitely stretched in many new directions. In particular the choir gained greater confidence when it comes to learning and singing without music.

During his time with the choir Ben composed and taught us a little jingle he wrote about Cloud9. During rehearsal he recorded it on his phone so we now have a chance to share it with you!

The Cloud9 Song

by Benjamin P Leske

We hope you enjoyed this small taste of Cloud9 Women’s Choir and look forward to sharing more music with you at our concert in November. Thanks Ben!

Farewell Tianyi

The end of June marked a turning point for Cloud9 Women’s Choir with our farewell to Tianyi as our musical director. For the past year Tianyi has been a great source of inspiration, stretching both our ability and confidence as a choir. We are sad to see her go but thank her for a wonderful year and wish her well in completing her Masters at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff.

Our farewell to Tianyi also coincided with the presentation of our third Wiggs Award! Janice was the deserving recipient for her hard work on many grant applications and for being the driving force behind our choir constitution. Congratulations Janice!

Janice with our honorary patron Leigh Wigglesworth

There is just one week left to book tickets to the inaugural concert of the Hopkins Sinfonia featuring conductor Tianyi Lu and pianist Natasha Lin from the Melbourne Conservatorium.

We are especially excited to feature this concert as Tianyi Lu is the amazing conductor of Cloud9 Women’s Choir! This is a great opportunity to see and hear Tianyi’s work outside the choir.

Thanks to everyone who attended our first concert at North Balwyn Uniting Church last weekend. We were thrilled by the number of smiling faces in the audience! The choir had a wonderful time performing under the great leadership provided by our director Tianyi Lu.

Thanks again to our wonderful accompanist Emily Chow and our amazing violin soloists Kristian Kupsch and Sarah Coghlan. We would also like to thank Erica Tucceri and Tristan Cozens for their duet which was definitely a highlight, providing a beautiful counterpoint to the choral program.

The choir is proud of what they have achieved after only six months together and are excited about what will be possible for our next concert in 2013!

Where are all the men?

With a name like “Cloud9 Women’s Choir” it’s not surprising that there are no men featured within our pages! In starting this choir we made the conscious decision to limit membership to women, as we believe that a choir comprised of sopranos and altos highlights the beauty of women’s voices. A large SATB choir makes a beautiful full sound, but there is something unique about the tone produced by a smaller group of women singing in harmony.

There is such a sense of community, support and friendship that comes from singing in a group of women. Cloud9 is not just about providing a musical outlet for its members, but also a strong network and space through which to support one another through highs and lows. We aim to bring women together in a friendly and open environment to share their love of music and develop their choral skills.

That being said, there are a huge number of men (and women!) who play an important role supporting us behind the scenes. Whether picking up the slack so we have time to attend rehearsals, solving computer problems or attending concerts where they listen to music that might not always be something they would listen to, but that they enjoy none the less!

Think you might be interested in joining our community of singers?
