Songs of Love and Longing

Cloud9’s concert Songs of Love and Longing was an outstanding success.

The audience were treated to a mix of modern and classical songs from around the world on love and longing.

From “Till there was you” to ‘The Wedding Song’ there was something in the program for everyone to enjoy.

The highlight for many was the presentation in ‘forest formation’ of ‘Let it Go’ and “The Irish Blessing” to end the concert.

Choir members were thrilled with the comments after the concert which included ‘the best concert so far from Cloud9’ and ‘the clarity and sound from the choir was excellent’.

We look forward to seeing you at our next concert on Saturday the 29th of November!

A new home for Cloud9

2014 sees Cloud9 Women’s Choir begin another exciting year of new experiences and learning under the continuing music direction of Gloria Gamboz. Choir rehearsals remain on Thursday evenings but have moved to a new home/venue at North Balwyn Uniting Church. This church is an ideal venue for performances and the choir is looking forward to an opportunity to perform there during 2014.

Particularly at the start of a new year we are keen to welcome new members of all voice types to the choir. Please look under the ‘How to Join’ tab for details. We would love you to join us at a rehearsal!

What sweeter music it was

Cloud9 is back and rehearsing towards our first concert in 2014. Our last concert of 2013, “What Sweeter Music” was a great success with over one hundred people attending!

Thanks to our wonderful piano accompanist Emily Chow who also performed a beautiful solo piece on the night. We would also like to thank Naomi Johnson,  Sarah Fitchett and Michael MacManus who performed on Flute/Recorder, Cello and Guitar alongside us.

A concert like this can’t go ahead without the generous help of all of the choir members and their families, both in the lead up to the concert and on the night, so we thank you all for making it possible.

Congratulations to Hilary on receiving the second Wiggs award for 2013. Hilary is always dedicated to the choir but showed her true talents by taking the choir for a rehearsal when we were short a conductor – Thanks Hilary, you did a great job!

Thanks Ben

Cloud9 Women’s Choir would like to say a big thankyou to Ben Leske who took up the role of Music Director for a month, while Gloria was busy traveling around the world.

We had a great time and were definitely stretched in many new directions. In particular the choir gained greater confidence when it comes to learning and singing without music.

During his time with the choir Ben composed and taught us a little jingle he wrote about Cloud9. During rehearsal he recorded it on his phone so we now have a chance to share it with you!

We hope you enjoyed this small taste of Cloud9 Women’s Choir and look forward to sharing more music with you at our concert in November. Thanks Ben!

Farewell Tianyi

The end of June marked a turning point for Cloud9 Women’s Choir with our farewell to Tianyi as our musical director. For the past year Tianyi has been a great source of inspiration, stretching both our ability and confidence as a choir. We are sad to see her go but thank her for a wonderful year and wish her well in completing her Masters at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff.

Our farewell to Tianyi also coincided with the presentation of our third Wiggs Award! Janice was the deserving recipient for her hard work on many grant applications and for being the driving force behind our choir constitution. Congratulations Janice!
